The first of May is a holiday in Belgium. It was quiet cool, but the sun was shining and together with a friend we went to the Domain of Huizing close to Brussels. (I wrote about it in 2009 here)
The map, as you can see you can easily spend the whole day here.
Today the castle is a restaurant/café
You can rent a boat ...
or just walk around and enjoy the flowers trees and plants
There is also a little river
this girl walked her cat
for the little once there is a zoo with small animals like chicken, geese, goats, rabbits etc ...
and very original playground, with dragons and other creatures sculptured in old tree trunks which had been recuperated from the park
a little farer from the playground is another smaller restaurant/café for hungry and thirsty people

THE DOMAIN OF HUIZINGEN IN WINTER

Last week I went with a friend for a walk through the Domain of Huizingen which is located a little outside of Brussels. I had been there already in 2009, so if you want to know a bit more I wrote about it here Domain of Huizingen in spring.
It was a very cold day - 7 °C (19 F), but warmly dressed it was really worthwhile because the park looked beautiful in its winter dress.
The castle which today is a restaurant.
the lake where usually you can rent little boats was frozen and covered with snow
We were the only once in the whole park which is enormous !
the little river which crosses the park was frozen
as it had been so warm in January, tulips had tried to come out and now they sit in snow and ice.
The employes who take care of the animals had made a hole for the swans to swim
The roots of this tree are growing outside which looks rather strange
The house of the warden
with ducks walking around
The administration buildings.

DOMAIN OF HUIZINGEN
Easter weather is just so perfect so that we took a walk through the Domain of Huizingen, a parc of 45 ha (111 acres). It is about 20 min from Brussels en the flemish part of the country.
The castle today belongs to the city and has been transformed to a wonderful restaurant
on the first glance these birds look real
but they are in metal
On the terrace you can enjoy a drink and watch the little boats which are for rent
The guardian house
There are a few very beautiful statues
and strange wooden formations
somebody told me that there is a wine cellar under this hill
Training material for boy scouts
Brussels' people escape to this wonderful place for a picnic
We have quite a lot of Morroccans living in Brussels
The whole parc was blooming
and love was blooming too
little water falls
and a train for those who wanted to see the whole domain which is very big. It would take more than two hours to walk all around
For children too, playgrounds are there.
You can easily spend the whole day there.
